In February 2017, Osler opened Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness – an innovative new outpatient hospital located in the heart of Brampton.
The Honourable Eric Hoskins, Ontario Minister of Health and Long-Term Care was among the many dignitaries on hand to mark the occasion. In the months leading up to the opening, more than 3,000 people got their first look at Peel Memorial during several open house tours.
Peel Memorial is a new kind of health care facility; one that represents a profound shift to a focus on prevention and wellness – on fostering a healthier community and reducing the need for emergency visits and hospital admissions.
Specialized services include day surgery, an Urgent Care Centre, seniors’ rehabilitation and wellness programs, mental health and addictions services, a hemodialysis unit, clinics for children youth, expectant/new mothers and newborns, and much more. Patients also get the information and supports they need to prevent or manage chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma, and cardiovascular disease, and to learn about things like fitness and healthy diets.
Peel Memorial works with Osler’s other two hospitals – Brampton Civic Hospital and Etobicoke General Hospital – to greatly increase our outpatient capacity, and provide even greater access to the programs and services our community needs most.
“Legions of people across this city and beyond worked for years to bring this vision to life,” says Joanne Flewwelling, Osler’s Interim President & CEO. “They have talked about it; galvanized others around it; advocated for it; and raised money for it. I am so thrilled to welcome them to the new Peel Memorial.”
